Silva Mexes has only been at Manchester United a matter of weeks, but supporters are already liking what they are seeing.

The teenage striker, who is the son of former Cardiff City, West Brom, Nottingham Forest, Norwich City and Wales forward Robert Earnshaw, moved to Old Trafford from Ipswich Town last month after several Premier League teams scouted him.

Welsh-qualified Mexes was signed on his goalscoring ability, something his old man knows a thing or two about, but in a new video which has emerged on social media, there is one other trait which might have made him stick out from his contemporaries.

Now Earnshaw was certainly no slouch, but by the look of Mexes' recent Instagram post, his son might just have the measure of him when it comes to pace.

Mexes uploaded a video of him completing a 100m sprint in which he blitzes his competition clean out of the water, winning comfortably in a track race. The youngster wrote that he completed a personal best time of just 11.1 seconds, of course that is not verified, however.

But to give some context, renowned speedster Theo Walcott set the Downs School, Berkshire, record of 11.58 seconds in 2004. The world record time for that age group is 10.51, according to athletics statistician Dominique Eisold.

United fan account Pete's United Point Of View, shared the video on X, saying: "New Manchester United Academy signing Silva Mexes is rapid. He is Rob Earnshaw's kid so I expected him to be quick but 100m in 11.1 seconds that’s a joke."

Alex Chapman said: "Rob was quick but think he’ll be even quicker! Could give Usain's record run for its money!"

Rebel Red added: "AND he's only 14 years old. Imagine his pace when he's 18." Another wrote: "We just signed Usain Bolt's brother."

Mexes will hope to continue the long line of Welsh-qualified youngsters who have thrived at United, the most recent of which is Cardiff-reared Gabriele Biancheri, who enjoyed a stellar campaign in front of goal for United's under-18s and under-21s this year.
