A dad ended up in a three-hour stand off with police after he learned that his ‘brain-dead’ son’s life support was to be switched off.

George Pickering II (above) stormed into the Tomball Regional Medical Center in Texas carrying a gun in a desperate attempt to save his son George III’s life.

Medics decided that there was no hope left for the 27-year-old, who suffered a stroke in January, and made the decision to switch off his life support.

But his dad refused to let it happen - and incredibly his son squeezed his hand during the stand-off.

Pickering then handed himself in to police and was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

However, he was released from jail earlier this month and all charges against him have been dropped.

Speaking about the decision to allow his son to die, Pickering told KPRC: “They were moving too fast.

“The hospital, the nurses, the doctors. I knew if I had three or four hours that night I would know whether George was brain-dead.”

Pickering, who admits to being drunk and aggressive at the time, added: “During that three hours, George squeezed my hand three or four times on command.”

His son is now fully recovered and said his dad broke the law “for all the right reasons”.

He said: “I’m here now because of it. It was love, it was love.”
