Manchester United's 2024 summer transfer business will be measured throughout due to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Sir Jim Ratcliffe is determined to pay the right price for their transfer targets after years of misdealings by the club.

MEN Sport understands a new defender, central midfielder and striker is at the top of Erik ten Hag's transfer list this summer but players must be sold to raise funds for any potential incomings.

Next presents clubs with a mini deadline day as June 30 concludes the current financial year. Any sales completed before the start of July will go towards the 2023/24 financial year, with clubs hoping to stay above the relevant threshold to avoid a potential breach.

Once we enter July, it's a clean slate and clubs have more wiggle room across the next 12 months - while ensuring they stay in line with the Premier League's maximum of £105m losses over three seasons.

United's targets across Ten Hag's squad means the idea of acting smart and efficient in the transfer window has to be calculated. Fortunately for United, the case of wild release clauses means there's a real opportunity to sign a proven goalscorer.

Paulo Dybala, 30, joined Roma in 2022 after leaving Juventus on a free transfer. The Argentine has scored 34 times and assisted a further 18 times in 77 games since moving to the Stadio Olimpico.

At Juventus, he scored 115 times and has consistently found the back of the net since moving to Italy. However, despite being one of Roma's most important players, he is incredibly likely to leave this summer.

A specific release clause in his contract means a team out of Italy can snap him up for as little as €12m (£10.1m). The clause becomes active on July 1 and will be valid for just one month. And according to reports in Italy, United have reignited their interest in the Argentine.

II Messaggero (via TMW) have reported that Ten Hag has placed the versatile forward high on his forward shortlist with his affordable release clause enticing the Dutchman for the club hierarchy to make a move.

United failed to sign Dybala in 2019 due to his wage demands and three years later, the 30-year-old rebuffed a move to England to move to Jose Mourinho's Rome. Now, there is a greater chance that he could finally move to the Premier League.

A quality player for just £10.9m would normally be a no-brainer but given the current economic situation in football with clubs balancing their books, the signing could go a long way in United's financial situation.
