The DCEU is currently in a huge state of creative flux, but the character emerging as the most important is Margot Robbie's Suicide Squad anti-heroine Harley Quinn.

There have recently been as many as four Harley-centric projects known to be in development for Robbie over the last year, ranging from Suicide Squad 2 to a rumoured Joker and Harley spin-off.

Robbie has also been involved, at various stages, with a Gotham City Sirens script from her Suicide Squad director David Ayer, which would have adapted DC's female-centric team for Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

But, it turns out that this isn't the only female-centric super-team project being considered for Margot Robbie over at Warner Bros and DC Films. TheWrap reports that she's also interested in Birds of Prey from Bumblebee: The Movie writer Christina Hodson.

The Birds of Prey are a covert vigilante squad, led by former Batgirl Barbara Gordon and Black Canary, who team up with a variety of DC's female heroes to take down crooks in Gotham City and Metropolis.

Warner Bros hasn't yet officially announced a Birds of Prey movie, nor is it clear how such a project would impact Joss Whedon's own Batgirl venture currently in development.

Late last year, Margot Robbie indicated that she'd been developing an entirely new Harley project separate from any of the movies announced by WB. Could this have been Birds of Prey all along?

For now, the Suicide Squad sequel is gearing up for production and looks set to reintroduce a major DC Comics character killed off in the original movie.
