Martin Dubravka wanted for Celtic transfer as Newcastle United clear exit path for goalkeeper

Celtic are eyeing a move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The Premiership and Scottish Cup winners are on the look-out for a new No. 1 following Joe Hart’s retirement last month. Manager Brendan Rodgers believes the Toon’s Slovakian keeper can do a similar job at Celtic Park as Hart did in three hugely successful years north of the border. Though Dubravka is 35, he was a regular for Newcastle during the second half of last season and believes he can still play at a high level for another two years.

With Nick Pope ahead of him at St James’ Park and the Geordies closing in on a £15m move for Burnley’s James Trafford, he will be allowed to leave after six years on Tyneside. Celtic, however, face stiff competition for the former Sparta Prague shotstopper with several club on the continent and at least two Saudi clubs interested in him.
