Watch: Martin Roberts returns to work after heart surgery

Martin Roberts has admitted feeling delighted and emotional as he returned to filming Homes Under the Hammer just a month after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

The 58-year-old TV presenter was rushed to hospital in April to have liquid drained from his chest, but just five weeks later has shared that he is back on location filming the BBC property auction show.

Roberts told his 20k Instagram followers: "I've got some pretty amazing news. Today is a very special day, it's quite an emotional one to be honest because I've spoken to the doctors and they've said as long as I take it easy I'm okay to start work.

"I'm in the valleys of Wales, I never thought I'd be so happy to see a two-up-and-down terrace! I have missed this so much. It's amazing to be back."

The emotional presenter kissed the terraced house he was standing in front of before drawing attention to the brightly coloured, patchwork, floral shirt he was wearing.

He explained: "You might notice the shirt, it's a little bit OTT but I needed to celebrate.

"It's also the nearest thing I've got to a bunch of flowers which I'm going to dedicate to you, if you sent messages of support and all your good wishes - this is a shirt for you.

"At some point you'll see this on Homes Under The Hammer and people might make silly comments about me wearing a ridiculously OTT shirt, but you'll know it's because it was a little nod to all the kindness I've received over the last few weeks."

Roberts had said he felt "lucky to be alive" following his heart operation.

Doctors found a build up of liquid around his heart was compressing the organ and inserted a tube to drain his chest.

Roberts remained in hospital for several weeks while doctors investigated the cause of the problem.
