Mary Berry had "differences" with Paul over Bake Off
Mary Berry was totally behind Paul Hollywood's move to Channel 4 with The Great British Bake Off - at least according to Paul himself.
However, things may not have been quite as smooth as suggested, with Mary now admitting that the two had differing priorities over the big-money switch.
"I would always stand by him," she told the Radio Times. "Paul and I had our differences about what was important to us but he is a brilliant bread-maker and I admired him a lot."
Leaving the BBC was a definite no-no for Mary, who revealed that she didn't even want to meet with Channel 4 bosses.
Asked if she was tempted, Mary replied: "Well, I avoided being asked. It was suggested what would happen if I did go to Channel 4; what I would get, the advantages.
"But I didn't ever have a meeting with them. I'd made up my mind. To me it's an honour to be on the BBC. I was brought up on it."
But even though she chose not to go with Paul to Channel 4, Mary will definitely be watching the new version of Bake Off - possibly featuring restaurateur Prue Leith as her replacement.
"Of course [I will watch the show]," she recently told Digital Spy. "I'll see what they're up to. I want to see Paul because we're still great friends."
The Great British Bake Off's eighth series will launch on Channel 4 later in the year.
