Masked rapper Meekz treats fans to surprise performance in Manchester city centre


Gorton rapper Meekz, announced his return from a hiatus with a surprise gig for unsuspecting fans in Manchester. Stood atop a navy green container, Meekz performed two songs for the excited crowd in front of the Peel Monument next to Popeyes and near to Piccadilly Gardens.

Wearing a grey tracksuit and donning a signature mask, Meekz was flanked by his entourage who were on code in uniform navy tracksuits. Before he began performing he tossed a slew of miniature Nike Air Max 90 trainers into the crowd that were provided by streetwear retail giant JD.

The 27-year-old elusive rapper seemed to be in a hurry when addressing the small crowd, stressing that he only had 20 minutes to perform, before going into a rendition of his latest single and another tune of his titled 'Jummah'.

Prior to the performance Meekz surprised his fans in Instagram by posting a picture of the container with the caption “Meet me here at 6pm. Piccadilly Gardens M1 2AP”. However, he didn’t turn up until an hour later when a mixture of anxious and restless supporters had gathered eagerly anticipating his arrival.

Previously known as 'Meekz Manny', Meekz rose to prominence in 2019 with his eye catching videos and boastful lyrics. His identity is also part of his legend, having never revealed his face.

There are rumours of who he is floating online but the rapper has never confirmed them, adding to the mystique.

His showcase in Manchester was the second act of his rollout for his upcoming mixtape called 'Tru' set to be released on 24 May. On Thursday (April 11) he premiered the impressive visuals for his new lead single 'Mini Me's' which has racked up 141K views in just 24 hours.

Speaking to the MEN at the premiere of the video at Vue Printworks, Meekz said: “This is the rollout for Tru the project, when I was 14 I got that tattooed on my stomach. That's what I named this tape, Tru, true to what I do and true to the art."
