Alan Shearer was the victim of a rather brutal 'snub' during Sunday night's Match of the Day from Euro 2024, as his colleagues 'refused' to let one of his famous goals be shown.

A star striker for Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and England in the 90s, Alan lead the line for the Three Lions at Euro 96, alongside Teddy Sheringham and fired in some crucial goals as the host nation, then managed by the late Terry Venables, made it all the way to the semi finals. One of their opponents in the group stages 28 years ago just happened to be Scotland, who were in action on Sunday against Hungary and aimed to make the last 16 of a major tournament for the first time ever.

And as England took on Scotland in the second group game of Euro 96, Alan just so happened to be on the score sheet at Wembley back then, opening the scoring before Paul Gascoigne sealed a 2-0 win with a memorable strike and famous goal celebration. Scotland's fortunes at major tournaments were compiled for a BBC montage as Match of the Day built up to kick off against Hungary, but one thing that was 'erased' from the series of clip was Alan's goal.

After the montage ended and presenter Gabby Logan mulled over just why it's never fully clicked for Scotland at the big tournaments, she then turned to Alan and remarked: "You were part of the problem. Of course everyone remembers the Gazza goal, they don't always remember yours. We did dig it out the archives but Rachel (Corsie) and David (Moyes) did vote against you."

Shaking his head, Alan responded: "Oh come on guys," as football manager David then retorted: "No chance we're putting that on!"
