Gary Lineker left viewers at home in shock and one of his Match of the Day co-stars looking far from impressed, when he fired a rather brutal insult at him live on air.

Having anchored some of the biggest games of Euro 2024, like Italy v Albania and Portugal v Czechia, ex England striker Gary was back in the host's seat as host nation Germany took on Hungary, with another ex England international, Frank Lampard sat next to him in the studio. And sadly for him, it was ex Chelsea star Frank on the brunt of one of Gary's put downs.

During the coverage, Gary pointed out the screen behind the pundits meant that fans couldn't see on set commenting: "The Brandenburg Gate there, we should take that screen down and see all the punters. But if they took the screen down they wouldn’t be able to watch the game."

In response, Frank joked that, even if there wasn't a screen there, people would only be able to see the back of his head. Seizing the opportunity to land a gig, Gary fired back: "No you’re right, nobody wants to see the back of your head these days! That’s for sure.”

It took a few moments for Frank, who recently led England to victory on Soccer Aid, to click that Gary was referring to the slight bald patch on the back of his head, with him then grimacing as the penny dropped,

It didn't take long for BBC viewers watching at home to mention to Gary's jibe and Frank's reaction, with one taking to X to write: "Gary Lineker has gone savage on Frank Lampard" and another responding: "Gary Lineker has just absolutely bodied Frank Lampard on live TV Lampards face is killing me. The fume."
