Max Verstappen won the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone to clinch Red Bull's first victory of the 2020 Formula One season.

The Dutchman started fourth on the grid on Sunday but, equipped with hard tyres, closed in on the two Mercedes in the first stint of the race.

The 22-year-old led before pitting for mediums and after Lewis Hamilton stopped on lap 42, Verstappen retook the lead and never looked like letting it slip out front.

Valtteri Bottas started on pole but struggled to produce the pace he had on Saturday and was passed on lap 50 by Hamilton - a seven-time winner at Silverstone - after a thrilling battle in the finale.

Charles Leclerc was fourth for Ferrari and Verstappen's Red Bull team-mate Alex Albon made a number of overtakes to cross the line in fifth, ahead of Lance Stroll.

Nico Hulkenberg - again standing in for Sergio Perez, who tested positive for coronavirus - started third for Racing Point, but missed out on a first-ever podium place in his 179th race start.

Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris and Daniil Kvyat completed the top 10, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel only finishing in 12th after a first-lap spin.
