Micah Richards made a tongue-in-cheek joke about not receiving a reply from David Silva after his return to Manchester City.

Saturday night saw City host Wolves in the Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola's side went into the game four points behind leaders Arsenal in the table with two games in hand.

Before kick-off, Silva walked out to a capacity crowd at the Etihad where he was given a warm reception by the home fans. The 38-year-old enjoyed a decade-long stint with City from 2010-20, scoring 77 goals in 436 appearances and winning 14 major trophies along the way.

As Sky Sports were showing Silva walking out on the Etihad Stadium pitch, host Kelly Cates asked Richards - who made 67 appearances alongside the former City star - to sum up Silva's legacy at the club. The former defender went on to praise Silva but also made a joke about his former teammate not letting him know he would be visiting the city.

"What a legend, I think he came to City in 2010 and from the first training session you could just see how good he was," Richards said on Sky Sports.

"Technically, vision, and what was best about him is he's just a nice guy. Fit in the dressing room perfectly.

"And what a player he was, up until [Kevin] De Bruyne was coming in, he [Silva] was my favourite. Him and Yaya Toure, City legends of the modern-day era.

"Everything about him was extraordinary, I'm so happy to see him back. He didn't give me a text, so I'll be texting him later on!"

Silva left City in 2020 to return to Spain and sign for Real Sociedad. After three years with the La Liga club, Silva retired from professional football last summer.
