Michael Schumacher’s wife breaks down in tears as she recalls her husband’s life-changing skiing accident in a new Netflix documentary.

Schumacher will detail the iconic Formula One driver’s life and career, including the horrific 2013 accident that left him fighting for his life.

In an emotional interview, Corinna, who married Schumacher in 1995, says that she ‘never thought anything could happen to him’ before his accident.

In the accident during a family holiday in the French Alps, Schumacher sustained severe and traumatic brain injuries, and was placed into a medically-induced coma for more than a year.

“I have never blamed God for what happened. It was just really bad luck – all the bad luck anyone can have in life,” Corinna explained.

“It’s always terrible when you say, ‘Why is this happening to Michael or us?’ But then why does it happen to other people?”

Despite doctors’ efforts, Schumacher is still in rehabilitation from the incident, with difficulties communicating as a result.

“Of course, I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him. It’s the children, the family, his father, everyone around him,” she continued.

“I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but he’s here and that gives us strength, I find.”

The couple shares two children together: Mick, 22, and Gina-Maria, 24. Mick was with his father at the time of the incident.

They have all made a conscious decision not to talk about Schumacher and his recovery in public with very rare exception.

The new documentary celebrating his life is one of them, with all the family giving their insight into the life of the acclaimed sports star.

“We try to carry on a family as Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives,” Corinna explains. “‘Private is private,’ as he always said. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.

“Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”

Schumacher airs on Netflix on 15 September.
