Michelle Heaton hopes taking part in Dancing On Ice will make her children proud after overcoming alcohol addiction.

The Liberty X singer – who has been sober for 20 months after revealing that she drank every day for three years – will compete in the latest series of ITV skating show of which 11-year-old daughter Faith and eight-year-old son AJ are her biggest fans.

Heaton, 43, revealed: "Faith was with me when I received the call and I cried! Faith said when I was crying that she thought it was bad news and I told her I got it and she hugged me and said ‘I’m so proud of you Mummy’.

Asked what she is most looking forward to about the show Heaton said: "For my kids to be proud of me! I want to try my very best and put my all into this. Getting to experience something that brings a lot of happiness to us as a family - they’ve been my support system through recovery.

And the singer revealed she had previously been in talks to take part previously, but her addiction had got in the way.

She said: "My band mate Jessica [Taylor] did it many years ago and I’ve always wanted to do the show but it’s never been my time. Obviously, I’ve suffered from addictions so even though I’ve always wanted to do the show and my name has been in the hat, it was never the right time. I feel really strong and ready."

Heaton - who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2009 – will be skating with Lukasz Rozycki.

She revealed in 2021 how she had checked into The Priory after a battle with drink and drug addiction that had almost killed her and pushed her family to the point of breaking.

The star – who found fame in 2001 in Liberty X, the runners-up of ITV singing talent show Popstars – shares her children with husband of 12 years Hugh Hanley.
