Bomb disposal experts were called in to deal with a pressure cooker left at an Italian train station - which turned out just to be filled with minestrone soup.

Parts of Genoa were placed on lockdown Wednesday lunchtime after a police officer discovered the device by a disused platform at Principe station.

Train traffic was suspended and surrounding roads closed as 40 people were evacuated from a nearby building.

Electricity, water and gas supplies to the area were also turned off.

With cops and firefighters on standby at the scene, the bomb squad used a charge to open the top of the cooker at around 7 p.m.

And they were happy to find that it only contained the leftovers of a minestrone soup.

It’s unclear who and why it had been left there.

The roads and station were re-opened and people were allowed to return to their homes, according to The Local.

The incident came the day after 36 bullets were found deposited at the city’s Luigi Ferraris stadium.
