Missing Libby Squire: Police admit student 'may have come to harm' and issue images of replica clothes

Detectives looking for missing student Libby Squire have admitted "she may have come to some harm".

The comments come as police released images of clothing exactly like what she wore when she was last seen.

The last sighting of the 21-year-old student is believed to be on Beverley Road in Hull around 12.05am on Friday 1 February at the junction with Haworth Street.

She was wearing a black denim skirt, a faux leather jacket and trainers.

Libby has now been missing for a fortnight, and police have made a fresh appeal for information about her disappearance.

Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley said: "The support and encouragement we have received is all very much appreciated and my thanks go out to everyone who has been involved and who has provided help or assistance.

"Over the last two weeks, our enquiries into Libby's disappearance have continued around the clock with detectives and officers working night and day to find her and to understand what happened that night.

"While we do continue to be hopeful and we will always keep an open mind, Libby has been missing for 14 days now and we sadly have to consider she may have come to some harm."

He urged anyone with any information to come forward.

"More work is now taking place behind the scenes rather than in public view, however this does not mean the investigation is slowing or coming to an end, it is exactly the opposite and is very much active and ongoing," he said.

"We are determined and we will do all we can to find Libby - she is our priority.

"This is a live investigation and proceedings are active. One man has been arrested, questioned and remains under investigation while we further our enquiries."

Images were released yesterday as CCTV emerged showing Ms Squire's last-known movements before she disappeared following a night out with friends in Hull on 31 January.

The footage shows her walking towards The Welly Club in the city at 11.18pm, unsteady on her feet as she negotiated snowfall from earlier that day.

Ms Squire can be seen with friends at one point, one in a winter coat who appears to loop arms with her as they wait to get into the club.

Less than five minutes later Ms Squire was turned away as doormen thought she was too drunk, so she got into a cab to head home.

The footage was taken from a camera near to the club, used by a business.

Business owner Lukasz Rybus said: "I want Libby to be found, to be back with her family and friends.

"I just hope that this footage helps jog someone's memory, if it helps someone remember seeing her, that can only be a positive thing."

Police believe she was dropped off by a taxi close to her home on Wellesley Avenue at around 11.29pm.

She was then seen 10 minutes later near a bench on Beverley Road where a motorist stopped to offer help.

It is believed CCTV footage is being examined which shows a man getting in and out of a car minutes after Libby was last seen.

Police last Wednesday arrested a man, Pawel Relowicz, of Raglan Street, Hull, on suspicion of abducting the philosophy student, and were granted extra time to question him over the weekend.

He was charged with unrelated previous offences, including voyeurism and outraging public decency and appeared in court on Monday.

Relowicz pleaded not guilty to perform a sex act in a public place, watching another person "doing a private act" for his own sexual gratification, and stealing vibrators, sex toys, knickers, condoms, photographs and computer equipment from people's homes.

His next hearing is due at Hull Crown Court on 11 March.
