Molly Bazan travelled from Newcastle to see her favourite band Green Day at the Isle of Wight Festival – and she had the honour of stepping on stage to sing along with her idol, Billie Joe Armstrong.

American rockers Green Day were closing the Main Stage on Sunday in a triumphant two-hour set, and the Californian frontman barely stopped for a breath.

Molly, who travelled from Newcastle to Southampton on the Saturday, and from Southampton to the Isle of Wight on the Sunday, was determined to see her favourite band.

The 18-year-old saw them just days before, in Manchester, but this was to be her first time on stage.

“It was unbelievable,” said Molly.

“The best day of my life.

“I didn’t believe it was going to happen. I was telling myself, there’s no way he’s [Billie Joe] looking at me.

“I was terrified I was going to forget the lyrics.

“I thought I was going to be nervous, but the adrenaline took over.

“It was crazy, I didn’t know what to say to Billie. I couldn’t believe he was there, right in front of me.”

Molly had the pleasure of singing one of her favourite songs in Know Your Enemy and was blown away by Green Day’s set as a whole.

One of her favourite albums is American Idiot, and the band played almost every song on the record.

Molly’s determination to see her favourite band saw her travel to the Island on her own, after her parents bought her a festival ticket for her birthday back in May.

She got to the site bright and early, secured a spot at the barrier and stayed there the whole day, making a few friends along the way.

It was the first time she’d been at the barrier for any band and was well worth the effort.

She also enjoyed listening to Beverley Knight, McFly and Nothing but Thieves, and praised them for hyping up the crowd ahead of the main act.

She was also impressed with the Isle of Wight crowd as a whole.

It is not the last time Molly will see Green Day.

She has already bought a ticket to see them at Wembley in London at the weekend.
