Gok Wan has been flooded with support after he confirmed the death of his best friend. The This Morning star said he couldn't prepare for the 'overwhelming pain' he now feels following his friend Ali's death from cancer.

The fashion expert and DJ often posted photos of himself and Ali, who also went by the name Fanny McPhee, on social media and Gok has previously spoken about how Ali was battling stage four breast cancer and was last seen with Gok in February when she visited the UK from Australia.

At the end of her trip, Gok said: "My little heart is a tiny bit shattered today. @fanny_mcphee is on her way back to OZ. We’ve had such a magical 2 months, time we never thought we’d have so thank you universe for making it happen. I know she has to go home to be with her amazing Son and family… I’ll miss the laughs and life reckoning… Bon voyage t**t face."

And after documenting their friendship online, Gok was saddened to share the news on Tuesday (May 14) that Ali had passed away. The 49-year-old shared a montage of himself and Ali's precious moments together alongside a lengthy caption.

Gok emotionally wrote: "After many years of fighting, Ali has finally ended her battle and is now at peace, resting with the stars. Ali passed away today with her family by her side. Her wonderful son, Tash, who she loved with all her might, reassured us Ali was not in pain and comfortable."

He went on: "Ali was the smartest, most courageous, sensitive and kind person any one of us could have had the privilege to meet. In my eyes, she was simply perfect. We spent many years preparing for this moment but no amount of talks or planning could have prepared me for this overwhelming pain.

"I miss her so much already. Her wisdom. Her smile. Her naughtiness. Her kind touch. Her everything. All my love," Gok added. "The very moment I met you I fell in love with you. We always said it was destiny that we should have met and I thank every happy thought that we did. Thank you for the best years of adventures and fun. Thank you for being every inch of you. You told me you were going to the stars and I believe you. I know that one day we will dance again, together in the skies.

"You showed the world what it means to be vulnerable yet strong. You showed every one of us how to be brave. You will never know how loved you are because that's the sweet and unselfish person you are. I miss you soo much. You used to tell me I am the love of your life. I used to tell you to shut up. I would do anything to hear you say that again."

Referring to the song playing over the video of his montage, Des'ree's I'm Kissing You, Gok went on: "We both agreed this song is one of the best vocals ever sung. How lucky were we to share so much music together. You will forever be in every song I love. The night sky will always be brighter now that you are shining your beautiful light from the universe. Rest now my dear Fanny. I will see you in the music my love. Your, Gok."

Alison Hammond was one of the first to send her love to Gok, writing beneath his post: "So sorry about your loss Gok , how lovely to have had a special friend like Ali . Love to you and her family and friends. Rip." Alexandra Burke added: "Sending you so much love xxxxx." Lisa Snowdon said: "Gok. Darling. I’m sending you so much love. What a wonderful woman and how lucky you both were to have found one another and shared so much, the laughter, the love, the dancing, so many special moments. Love to you and your all who knew and loved Ali."

Loose WOmen's Denise Welch replied: "What a testament to an incredible friendship." Comedia Alan Carr posted: "Oh Gok!! Sending you so much love - utterly heartbreaking," while Sarah Millican shared: "So very sorry for your loss. Sending all my love. So glad you had each other." Lorraine Kelly added: "Gok - so sorry."
