This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has denied ever having a "feud" with his co-host Holly Willoughby.

Tabloid reports emerged late last year that there were tensions between Phillip and Holly and that there was a "toxic" atmosphere on the set of the ITV show, which the show's editor Martin Frizell and Holly herself firmly denied.

Phillip has now spoken out again about the claims while appearing on Chris Evans' How to Wow podcast, saying that there is absolutely no truth in any kind of "feud" rumours.

"There was nothing that was being said that had any truth in it whatsoever," he said. "There was no and there has never been a feud with Holly."

He added: "When they're writing 'Phillip and Holly and feud' we couldn't have been closer because I'd told her my secret and she was holding me together at work", referring to the fact that he confided in Holly that he is gay before announcing it publicly.

Phillip also addressed the claims that there was a toxic atmosphere on the show's set and tensions between staff members, saying that he was very upset to hear the reports.

"There's never been anything like that, everyone is equal, we all love each other, they were worried about me, we all talk about each other's families and their lives and things, it's a tight-knit team," he said. "So the fact there was supposed to be all of this going on – absolutely and completely untrue."

He added that he "didn't recognise" the person being described in the press, saying: "If I was an a**ehole I don't think I'd have got what I've got, and then for it to be said 'He's shocking to work with, difficult to work with' – I didn't recognise this man.

"How is this true, how could this happen? The one solid thing I had underneath my feet was the security rug of my job... When that was pulled out from underneath me, that was a shocker, that was a real shocker.

"But I still maintained, and we had to maintain, this sort of smiling face in the mornings and sometimes it's hard."

Phillip, who also hosts Dancing on Ice alongside Holly, clarified that he has absolutely no plans to quit This Morning just yet.

"No matter how many times we say, there are absolutely no plans to leave This Morning," he said. "There are literally no plans for me to leave This Morning. I adore that show."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
