Embarrassing story: Londoners will be reliving their worst moments live on stage

Four Londoners will reveal their most awkward teenage moments in a “part confession, part docu-comedy show” this weekend.

Thousands of budding performers around the world pitched embarrassing tales to organisers of Mortified Live, and producers then helped edit them down to witty deliveries.

One performer currently features in a Netflix documentary series, Mortified Nation, based on the stage shows’ international material.

Psychiatrist Layla McCay, 37, who lives in Brixton, will be seen telling her story about struggling to come to terms with her sexuality as a teenager.

She said: “Taking part in the show is really actually quite embarrassing, but it is really, really fun. I love hearing how ridiculous and hilarious people’s lives are.”

Show producer, comic Reuben Williams, 35, leads sessions in London and helped Ms McCay edit her sketch.

He said: “It’s really exciting, it’s a great thing to be part of. It’s a really fun project, it’s got so much heart, there’s something so nice about you know, people’s courage and sharing their embarrassment. It’s a good reminder of how terrifying teenage years were, but also how much everyone struggled in one way or another - no one came through it completely unscathed.”

‘Mortified Live: London’ will stage three shows this year at the Leicester Square Theatre, beginning on Saturday. For tickets or to join the project, see here getmortified.com.
