Most people alive today will see ‘dangerous’ global warming in their lifetimes

If you are alive today, the odds are good that you will see the point where global warming becomes ‘dangerous’, a group of scientists has warned.

A rise of two degrees Centigrade above pre-industrial levels is viewed by most scientists as the point where global warming will start to have dangerous effects on the climate.

But efforts by 200 governments to limit global warming to a rise of 1.5 Centigrade are ‘not enough’, the scientists warn.

By 2050, we will have not only passed the 1.5C limit - but may well have reached the ‘danger’ point, the scientists warn.

Robert Watson, a British-American scientist who co-authored the study, ‘The Truth About Climate Change, says, ‘We’ve really got a problem.

‘While the Paris Agreement on Climate Change is an important step in the right direction, what is needed is a doubling or tripling of efforts.

‘I think the 1.5 degree pathway is clearly not achievable. We’ll pass it probably in the early 2030s,

‘Without additional efforts by all major emitters, the 2C target could be reached even sooner.’
