Motorcyclist seriously injured in HGV crash as A5 near Muckley Corner closed for six hours

A motorcyclist was left seriously injured following a crash with a HGV - as an A-road was closed for at least six hours. The collision took place on the A5 Watling Street near Muckley Corner in Lichfield yesterday afternoon, May 1.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance to the scene at 12.15pm where paramedics discovered one patient, the male motorcyclist, who was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment.

The northbound section of the A5 was closed between the junction for the M6 Toll and the A5148 and the A461. National Highways announced the road had closed at 2.48pm yesterday and reopened at 8.26pm.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a motorbike and an HGV on Watling Street at 12.15pm, one ambulance attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the motorcyclist.

"He was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham."
