Sonic the Hedgehog 2 confirms return of fan favourite

Sonic the Hedgehog sequel has confirmed a fan favourite character will return for the upcoming chapter.

Lee Majdoub is set to reprise his role as Agent Stone in the sequel. The official Twitter account for Sonic the Hedgehog shared the news with fans of the franchise on National Coffee Day (September 29).

The faces of Majdoub as Stone and Jim Carrey as villain Captain Robotnik were framed in a latte mug, hinting at one of their most popular scenes in the first movie.

Stone is a government agent who works for scientist Robotnik. In the famous scene, Majdoub's character interrupts his boss as he's dancing in the laboratory to bring him a latte.

Like in the most classic of movie workplace dynamics, Robotnik yells at Stone... purely to let him know his lattes are the best. Credits go to that steamed Austrian goat milk, of course.

Following the official announcement, Majdoub reshared the tweet to confirm the news.

"What... did you really think Dr. Robotnik could do this without me? (Don't answer that)." the actor wrote.

Majdoub and Carry are just the latest actors who have been confirmed for the new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.

Ben Schwartz will be returning to lend his voice once again to the speedy hedgehog, while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter will also be reprising their roles in the new film.

Along with these returning characters, it has been confirmed that Knuckles will indeed be in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After plenty of speculation about who should play the red echidna, it is official: the new-yet-familiar character will be voiced by Idris Elba.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is due for release on April 8, 2022. The first film is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming.
