A mum has been left with 'the ick' following her boyfriend's interaction with her toddler at a restaurant. Regardless of whether you've been in a relationship for two minutes or two years, we all experience the 'ick' from time to time.

However, one mum's tale about a cringe-worthy moment that spoiled her relationship has certainly divided the internet.

Before sharing her story, the mum revealed that she had been dating her partner for just over a year. He didn't have any children of his own but often lent a hand with her three year old son.

But one day, things got a bit too much when they were out for a meal.

Posting anonymously on Mumsnet, she detailed: "My three year old was calmly eating his food and standing up on his seat and waving at the other toddler behind him..", reports the Mirror.

"He wasn't making a mess, a fuss or annoying the family behind us. They weren't bothered at all and their little girl, who looked ages with him, were waving back and forth. I'm very sure she goes to his nursery but it's always a child minder who collects this girl so I have no idea who mum or dad are."

Despite the innocent nature of this interaction, the mum suggested that her boyfriend took it all a bit too seriously, repeatedly asking the cheerful toddler to sit down. When her son didn't comply, the boyfriend attempted to intervene, resulting in a spilled drink.

"[He] then put his hand across the table to sit him down spilling my drink all over my son's plate and all over my coat and the table.," she revealed. "And was like 'aww f*** sake', like it was our fault? I just pretended I didn't even see it happen and kept eating. There's no reason to have done it in the first place."

Despite what might seem a trivial incident, the mum admitted that she hasn't felt attracted to her boyfriend since the event and questioned if her feelings were justified. She continued: "Why would you possibly do that? He was bothering no one. It didn't seem like an out of control kids [situation], or I had no control over him, and just let him run wild. He was eating standing up waving."

The mother's candid post on Mumsnet sparked a flurry of shocked reactions, with many suggesting her partner, who isn't the child's father and has been with her for just a year, shouldn't be disciplining the toddler. One commenter expressed: "So your partner who isn't the father and who you've only been with for a year manhandled your toddler and made a scene and you pretended it didn't happen? ? Bin the partner."

Another chimed in: "Were you not angry he basically ruined your child's meal by spilling a drink on it? And not to mention going to grab him from across the table? ? ? ".

Yet, there was some support for the boyfriend, with a user pointing out: "Allowing your child to stand on a restaurant chair is a bit odd. You should really show your child how to behave in public."
