Neighbours actress Ariel Kaplan has posted a response to the recent backlash facing her character.

Ariel – who returned to Erinsborough earlier this month – plays Imogen Willis in the Australian soap, and following yesterday's (March 22) episode, her onscreen attitude rubbed up some viewers the wrong way. So much so that social media was flooded with pretty irritated reactions.

One Twitter user wrote: "Imogen was never this annoying, she needs to chill..." whilst another said: "Was Imogen always this much of a snot?"

Addressing fan complaints about the character via Instagram today (March 23), Ariel defended Imogen.

"One of my favourite parts of being back on set was the surprise of getting to see this legend!" she captioned a snap showing her with Morgan Baker, who plays Callum Jones. "Also wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who's been so lovely about me coming back.

"While I realise many people aren't loving Imo's attitude (she sure is fierce), I promise she's not THAT bad the entire time."

Luckily for the actress, her Instagram followers appear to have her back at least, with many replying to the upload with messages of support.

"I've never seen such uproar for a characters return! People really don't like Imogen! I hope people are remembering that Imogen are Ariel aren't the same person," one fan claimed, which was then followed by: "Loving you back and also not finding the hard Imogen too bad either. She's just very head strong and I like that."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
