Newcastle United have put down offers for Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabiyo ahead of the summer transfer window.

Both defenders would give Eddie Howe a great start in the summer window but he admits Newcastle must see how the duo's agents respond to the approaches. Howe has been keeping tabs on the situation regarding Tosin and Kelly and Chronicle Live understands that there are other deals in the pipeline.

Howe told Chronicle Live: "It's very early. It will be a long summer and there will be moments where there is not a lot of news.

"We are working hard to get targets identified and try to begin negotiations. There are a lot of unknowns in the market and we will see how it falls for us."

Newcastle fans were still buzzing on the streets of Melbourne today after beating Tottenham on penalties after their 1-1 draw. And Howe was keen to pay tribute to the players involved.

Howe added: "It was a really good game actually, as these games go, we knew it was going to be a lower intensity. Both sets of players testing each other out and not wishing to take too much of a chance with their bodies, long flight, jetlag.

"It was not ideal preparation. We came through the game OK, no injuries. We won the game and credit to everyone."

Howe also offered more insight on to why players such as Fabian Schar, Sean Longstaff and Martin Dubravka missed the trip Down Under.

Howe said: "Sean is not injured his partner is expecting his first baby so he is naturally excused. Fabian is still aware of his groin, Martin Dubravka a tight hamstring nothing serious.

"Kieran Trippier is fine. We just managed his game time, we wanted him to start so he had a full warm-up. We did not want to play too long. We wanted to protect him."
