Newly Released Police Video Shows Power of Deadly Nashville Tornado

Police in Nashville have released remarkable footage of a powerful tornado that hit the Germantown neighborhood of the city on March 3, a night when several tornadoes struck Middle Tennessee, killing 26 people and injuring hundreds.

The video was recorded by an MNPD safety camera, mounted at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 3rd Avenue North. The camera continued to record on battery power for a short time after the storm blew out power lines. Despite water damage to the camera housing, the stored video survived, police said.

The footage shows traffic lights begin to sway as the wind picks up, before the camera shakes violently as flashes are seen from power sources blowing.
