This high-society drama is based on the novel series of the same name by author Julia Quinn and brought to streaming via Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company. Set in the social circles of Regency-era London, an upper-class world known as the ‘Ton,’ it follows members of the Bridgerton family as they search for love and strive to avoid scandal.

Last year, Netflix delivered the very first franchise spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story which followed a younger version of Golda Rosheuvel’s Charlotte, played by India Amarteifio.

Part two of Bridgerton’s third season is finally available to binge on Netflix. It’s the talk of the Ton — but is it any good? A batch of reviews should be able to answer that question for us.

Our write-up enjoyed the series’ final four episodes but admitted that “the show’s steamy nature feels more serviceable this time around than shocking.” Meanwhile, The Independent said that when Bridgerton leans on the “strengths of its multi-generational ensemble cast, there is still a lot to like” before adding that some supposedly shocking moments appear “as rote as the dance steps that the characters perform in the ballroom.”

The Evening Standard wasn’t as kind, suggesting that the show’s final four episodes offer up “little more than an illicit fumble in a carriage.”

Part one of Bridgerton season 3 is available now on Netflix. In it, we catch up with Penelope as she struggles to come to terms with discovering that the love of her life, Colin Bridgerton, isn’t interested in her.

As our heartbroken heroine attempts to move on with her life, things are made more difficult thanks to the continued friction between her former best friend Eloise Bridgerton, who has discovered Penelope’s secret - that she’s really local scandal scribe Lady Whistledown.

When Colin returns from his travels, he finds Penelope determined to find a husband and offers to help her find one, which she eventually does via the rich Lord Debling. However, Colin and Penelope’s recently reignited closeness leads to Colin developing unexpected feelings for her — something that throws a spanner in the works for Penelope’s newfound romance with Lord Debling.

However, Debling’s not her true love — that’s Colin — and as Bridgerton season 3 part 1 comes to a close, the pair’s clandestine romance eventually comes to the fore, putting an end to Lord Debling’s proposal plans and leading to a heated exchange between Penelope and Colin.

As the half-season comes to a close, Colin proposes to Penelope - but her secret remains, hanging over the events of part 2.
