Katy Perry Admits New Single 'Unconditionally' Gives Her 'Goose Bumps'

Katy Perry has revealed why upcoming single 'Unconditionally' is her favourite track from her latest album 'Prism.'

The 29-year-old has explained that she has a special "goose bump test" to see if her tracks are good enough - a challenge 'Unconditionally' seems to have passed with flying colours.

Earlier this week, Katy unveiled the official music video for the single and has now revealed why she loves the song so much.

"There's this test that I do in the studio, after a song's complete and you've tracked some vocals," Katy told MTV News. "It's kind of like the goose bump test."

The 'Roar' starlet explained that the song has a spine-tingling affect, something she considers vital to any heartfelt tracks. "If, every time you hear it, it gives you goose bumps, it's hitting a chord inside of you that's really important," she said.

"It's an emotional chord inside of you."

Katy, who is currently dating singer-songwriter John Mayer, added that she adores the fact the song isn't just about romantic pairs, saying: "I love this song because not only can it be a romantic, intimate song, but it can be about the type of love that a mother has when she sees her first child, or best friends or partners."

The multiple types of relationship explored in the track also inspired the music video, which depicts a mother and baby amongst the crowds of costume-clad dancers at a grand ball. The 'TGIF' singer told MTV that 'Unconditionally' wasn't inspired by any of her relationships, but actually the people she met during a recent UNICEF trip to Madagascar.

"I was kind of inspired by the love that I saw," she said."It was this unconditional love between all of them. It was that kind of pure love that's unaffected by the trends of the world," she added.

'Unconditionally' will enter the battle for Christmas number one when it's released on December 16 and the star will be hoping to replicate the success of her last single 'Roar', which shot to the top spot in the UK and USA. Following her dramatic MTV EMAs performance of the track earlier this month, Katy will open Sunday's (November 24) American Music Awards with a rendition of the single.

The 'Firework' singer recently announced a 'Prismatic' World Tour, which will kick off in May 2014. The star will perform eleven gigs in the UK, including three shows at London's O2 Arena. Katy will be supported by Swedish duo Icona Pop, who warmed up for the star at her September iTunes Festival concert. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (November 22).
