Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Pushed Back Until 2016

We'll have to wait to see Johnny Depp return as Jack Sparrow as the fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean may not hit cinema screens until 2016, according to the film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer. He has confirmed revealing issues with the script and the huge budget have all contributed to the lengthy delay.

The latest outing of the Disney franchise, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was due to return to screens on July 10, 2015 with Johnny Depp reprising his role as charming hero Captain Jack Sparrow, however, Bruckheimer says the script is still being written and perfected and may not even premiere until 2016.

“We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done,” Bruckheimer told the Hollywood Reporter.

With Disney's recent flick The Lone Ranger losing profit despite the studios throwing more than $100 million into its production, Bruckheimer admits that the financial aspect is also a factor in the delay with THR reporting that the movie's budget stretches at more than $250 million.

“It’s all a factor. We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on,” Bruckheimer explained, adding that “everyone's more cautious” with pushing the budget.

He added: “We’re supposed to start in March and you start spending a lot of money now.”

Bruckheimer goes on to reveal that Disney were initially not happy with screenwriter Jeff Nathanson's script prompting him to rewrite it and a source says the storyline “was too expensive but it was also really complicated and hard to follow.”

Bruckheimer continues: “With any movie, you’re never confident. But it’s a billion-dollar franchise.”

The most recent Pirates movie On Stranger Tides was released in 2011 and grossed more than $1.04 billion at the box office.
