Former Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker has announced a "massive" career move.

The presenter is set to join Classic FM as the new host of the station's beloved breakfast show.

The former BBC Breakfast host will start his new role at 6.30am on Monday, January 8, where he will wake up the nation with classical music and insightful conversation.

Taking to Instagram to announce his new role, Walker said: "I need to dust off the alarm clock! Really excited about joining the brilliant team at @classicfm.

"Massive job stepping into @timlihoreau's shoes but I can't wait to get started on the breakfast show. See you Monday from 6.30am."

In a statement, the much-loved TV personality went on to share his excitement at returning to a breakfast slot – following his departure from the BBC Breakfast sofa in May 2022.

"This is an amazing chance to join one of the biggest radio stations in the country. I'm over the moon that I'm going to be part of Classic FM's brilliant line-up and presenting the breakfast show is a wonderful opportunity," he explained.

"I am passionate about classical music and I'm a long-time listener – I also love the breakfast audience and I think they know me well so I can't wait to get started."

Philip Noyce, Classic FM's managing editor, added: "It's really fitting to welcome in the new year with our new-look 2024 schedule, and to be able to welcome Dan Walker back to breakfast broadcasting as the new host of Classic FM Breakfast is fantastic.

"We look forward to him joining the Classic FM family with an engaging and rejuvenating programme, weekdays from 6.30am, to ease listeners into the start of their day."

As well as his new radio show, Walker will continue his duties as lead anchor on Channel 5's flagship news programme, 5 News.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
