Tom Cruise 'Wasn't Interested In Russell Brand Joining Scientology, Told Him To Read The Bible'

Russell Brand has claimed, while he's good friends with Oblivion star Tom Cruise, his Rock Of Ages co-star hasn't invited him to join religious sect the Church of Scientology of which he is a member despite dropping several hints, during an interview with Conan O'Brien on US TV.

The comedian claimed that despite many celebrity members, including John Travolta, Will Smith and Kirsty Alley, he wasn't interested in the British comedian joining the high profile organisation.

"Every so often I’d say things like, 'oh Tom, sometimes I’m a bit lost in life,' to see if he would try and get me in and he’d go, 'oh yeah, I dunno, read the bible'," he said during his interview.

"Or, 'Tom, I wish I had a way of thinking more positively about the future'." 

But it seems despite his hints Tom wasn't bittng, with Brand claiming he was a little offended by the reaction.

"That man had no interest in getting me into Scientology at all," he said. "If there’s a cult that don’t want me, I want to know why!"

However it seems despite feeling snubbed, Brand is still a huge fan of the Mission Impossible babe.

"He is a glorious man, and he is very kind and sweet," Brand insisted, "that’s what you say if you want to continue to work in the film industry."

The unlikely duo formed quite a friendship while they were filming Rock of Ages, with Russell even bringing along Tom, his daughter Suri and then wife Katie Holmes, to watch his wife Katie Perry in concert in January 2012. Unfortunately both men's romances have since ended, but it looks like their bromance is going stronger than ever.
