A popular supermarket just south of the city has announced it is now closed for the summer ahead of an exciting makeover.

The Newton Mearns M&S will welcome a new bakery, wine shop and more as part of the transformation, with plans to reopen later this summer (scheduled to be in July).

Store manager Ross, who has been with M&S since 2009 and closed the store with special guest Percy Pig, took to social media to state: "I’m so excited that Newton Mearns is getting a brand-new refresh.

"We were the first store in Scotland to become a Simply M&S so it is great we are now entering our next era to ensure we are always giving our customers the best shopping experience.

"A bigger and better foodhall means even more delicious products, from fresh fruit and vegetables grown by our select farmers to our Remarkable Value range and iconic Dine In."

The makeover will create a new bakery, wine shop, flower shop, new click & collect facilities, and a cheese barge. The investment is part of M&S’ plan to invest £30 million in stores across Scotland.

Sharing a video of the store closure online the team added: "With the help of Percy, our store manager Ross has closed the doors ready for our transformation! See you all in July."
