Nick Grimshaw has been forced to pull of Sport Relief's 100 mile expedition challenge for a second day due to heat exhaustion.

Along with Louise Minchin, Karim Zeroual, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Frankie Bridge, Robert Rinder and Samantha Womack, the Radio 1 DJ had set off on an epic trek across the Namib Desert in Africa to raise money for a number of mental health charities.

The first day saw the gang cycle 35 miles, while day two would have seen Grimshaw walk 24 miles on foot with the rest of the celebrities. However, he was advised by professionals to sit it out on medical grounds.

"I'm absolutely gutted not to be with the team today. I was mentally prepared for it but the medical team have decided I need to miss today," the 35-year-old explained to the Mirror. "I got pulled by the medic just 2k from the finish line and treated for heat exhaustion.

"I'd been drinking, eating and resting regularly but it came on so quickly. I feel much better today and I'll be fine but they have advised that my body needs to recover so I can re-join the challenge tomorrow."

This isn't the first problem the challenge, entitled The Heat is On, has encountered in recent weeks either.

The team were initially supposed to hike, bike and skate across a frozen lake in Mongolia but due to the ongoing Coronavirus fears, the plans were changed at the last minute, swapping -35 degrees celsius for 35 degrees celsius.

Sport Relief: The Heat Is On will air on BBC One in a week of activities in aid of Sport Relief on March, Friday 13.
