And Laura Dern plays into it somehow.

Even best friends sometimes forget the simplest things. Case in point: Hollywood besties Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon—not only are the co-stars making headlines for reminding everyone that Big Little Lies is coming back (eventually), but a viral moment between the two is reminding everyone that Reese isn't really a Reese. Speaking about their fellow BLL co-star Laura Dern, Kidman said that she didn't understand why Witherspoon referred to Dern by her last name. And that's when Witherspoon reminded her BFF that she's a Laura, too.

"I hate how you call her Dern," Kidman told Reese in a video interview for Vanity Fair. "It sounds so weird. I'm always like 'Laura,' and you're like 'No, Dern, Dern,' and I'm like, 'Why?'"

"'Cause my name is Laura, and her name's Laura, and it's confusing to me," Reese said. Her full name is Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon and when she started getting serious about acting, she went by Reese, which is her mother's maiden name.

Kidman went on to say that she forgot that fun fact, but she also reminded Reese that Dern "doesn't even call you Laura, though."

"You're trying to understand something that just makes no sense," Witherspoon finished, brushing off the topic before the two moved on.

The two became fast friends after working together on BLL in 2016. The show also starred Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz, with Meryl Streep joining the cast for its second season.

“We’re moving fast and furious and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape,” Kidman said of where the third season is at the moment. Ever since the show wrapped its sophomore season in 2019, fans have been clamoring for more.

“There’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it,” Kidman explained of why she's been dropping hints at the show's return since she accidentally talked about it in the past. “Because if you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study.
