North Wales temperatures to hit 20C as May Bank Holiday weekend approaches

The weather is set to warm up this week with temperatures due to reach 20C before the end of the week. Recent days have been unseasonably cold in the region but that is due to change as we move towards the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The bad news for people looking forward to the long weekend and holidaymakers coming here in their droves is that at the moment the temperature is due to peak on Thursday, with 19C forecast for north east Wales and 17C across large parts of the rest of the region according to the Met Office. The highest temperature is forecast to be in Ruthin and the border by Chester with 20C expected.

While these numbers will drop slightly after Thursday the positive thing is that Saturday looks set for a good amount of sunshine and the thermometer is still set to reach 15C/16C, with a more gentle breeze than last weekend.

Temperatures will stay at around a max of 15C so while not exactly a heatwave it's an improvement on recent days.

BBC Wales weather forecaster Sue Charles has said: "It’s turning warmer, but not always brighter. Still some rain in the forecast."

On the Thursday to Saturday forecast for Wales, the Met Office said: "Showery and unsettled as we head into May with cloud for many. Dry spells for some as temperatures remain above average for the time of year."

Its UK forecast the Saturday to Monday period states: "A fairly uncertain period through the bank holiday weekend with more likely a warm but cloudy period with bright spells, greatest in the north and showers more likely in the south. However there is also potential for a more unsettled spell to spread from the west with fresh winds and bands of rain mid-weekend, signals still unclear regards this."
