32-year-old seasoned hairdresser Jodie Stott opened her very own salon in Haughton, above No 58 The Green just three months ago and has had roaring success ever since.

Jodie, 32, has previously worked in Cockerton’s Talking Heads salon and ECO Hair Salon on Duke Street but on Good Friday began her latest adventure in her own space.

Now, she's a finalist in The Northern Echo Best Hairdresser and Barber competition - and is over the moon about it.

Jodie told the Echo: "I moved to Darlington seven years ago because my husband serves in the forces - he's based in Catterick.

"But I've been here on my own for a few months in this salon. I'm enjoying it and getting a lot of good feedback.

"I've also been getting to meet a lot of new clients which is lovely."

Jodie offers her clients everything from highlights, balayage, root refreshes and classic cuts and blow dries in her salon, which she says has a "quiet and peaceful" atmosphere.

Speaking of her excitement at the chance of scooping the trophy, the mum of two added: "Everyone has been really supportive, they are really happy for me. They keep telling me how nice it is.

"I just feel so grateful, people are so kind. I was shocked when I found out.

"There is tough competition and it can be intense at times but everyone deserves the opportunity and chance. I am just really, really happy."
