Tube commuters vented their frustration after they were caught up in huge queues amid delays sparked by a signal failure.

The Northern line was suspended between Edgware to Morden via Bank and from Charing Cross to Morden following signalling problems during the Wednesday morning rush hour.

Transport for London said there were severe delays on the rest of the line.

Passengers also appeared to have trouble accessing the Circle and District lines at Victoria station but it was not clear what had caused the delays.

TfL said the station may be busier because of customers re-routing their journeys.

Commuters were left waiting in huge queues for buses after arriving at Tube stations to find there were no services running.

Evelyn Clegg posted a photo on social media of a huge queue for a bus and wrote: “Happy Wednesday everyone.”

Another Twitter user wrote: “No trains on the @northernline right now and a mile long queue for the bus.”

Thamim Ahmed said: "#Stuck at #Kennington #tube failure and the lifts also #broken..."

A Transport for London spokeswoman said: "We have a signal failure at Kennington as of 08.41am which means the service is currently suspended Edgware to Morden via Bank, and Charing Cross to Morden.

"There are severe delays on the rest of the line.

"We apologise to customers for the disruption to their journeys."

The spokeswoman said TfL was not aware of any specific issue at Victoria station but that it may be busier because of customers re-routing their journeys.
