An unusual opportunity to be a Christmas tree farmer has become available after a plantation went on sale in Northumberland.

The Northumbria Christmas Tree plantation, near Kirkharle, was established in 2008. It has more than 8,800 Nordmann Fir trees on 17 acres of land and sells more than 450 Christmas trees throughout the North East each year.

A plot of just over 17 acres, which also contains two buildings and all the equipment needed to harvest the trees, has been put on sale through the Durham office of H&H Land & Estates with a guide price of £265,000.

H&H Land & Estates associate director Robert Jauneika said: “This is a unique opportunity for a purchaser to acquire a ready-made rural business with an established market and great potential for growth in every sense of the word.”

In the sale particulars, the agents say the 17-acre plot is surrounded by deer fencing to protect the trees, which range in age from saplings to harvestable height. The property includes two buildings: an open-fronted boarding shed used for general storage; and a second building with solar panels, a small wind turbine and a rainwater harvesting system. The business currently sells trees across the North East, which are usually delivered directly to customers. But it also has an agreement to sell from a local retail outlet, which the agents say could be continued when the business is sold.
