‘We Are Not Going Back’: Elizabeth Warren Addresses Crowd Outside US Supreme Court

Senator Elizabeth Warren addressed a crowd gathered outside the US Supreme Court on Tuesday, May 3, following a leak of a draft opinion indicating a majority of the court is prepared to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision.

The draft opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito in February, was obtained by Politico and would bring an end to the “guarantee of federal constitutional protection of abortion rights and allow each state to decide whether to restrict or ban abortion."

Footage shot by Brendan Gutenschwager shows Warren calling for an end to the Filibuster in the US Senate, which allows a minority of lawmakers to delay and block voting on a bill through prolonged debate.

“We need to have this vote on the floor on the United States Senate,” she says. “That’s what it’s going to take to make change in the Senate.”

She later leads a call and response, asking the crowd, “Are we going back?” The crowd responds, “Not Ever!”

“We are in this fight all the way!” she shouts before exiting the platform. Credit: Brendan Gutenschwager via Storyful

ELIZABETH WARREN: --right to access to an abortion that I say the time has come. We end the filibuster now!

[CHEERING]

We need to have this vote on the floor of the United States Senate. We need to raise our voices and be heard. And we need to keep having this vote until we win it. And if that means we got to do it once, we got to do it twice, we got to do it right up until election day in November. And we hold accountable every single person who still wants to protect the filibuster. That's what it's going to take to make change in the Senate.
