Police are appealing for information to help identify a large group of off-road bike riders who are alleged to have descended upon Barnsley over the weekend and caused significant damage.

Just before 5pm on Sunday, April 14, police received reports of around 15 off-road bikers around the Barnsley Road area of Cudworth causing damage to street furniture, obstructing drivers on the road, and driving in a dangerous and anti-social manner. A further report alleged that the offenders caused damage to the Victoria Pub.

When police arrived at the scene the off-road bikers are believed to have become abusive and threatening. One off-road biker caused damage to a police vehicle after ramming his quad bike into it, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police has said.

Neighbourhood Inspector Rebecca Richardson said: “We are working at pace to identify those involved in the disorder yesterday and believe that those in the images can help us progress our enquiries.

“We believe that the riders came into Barnsley from the West Yorkshire area and may not live or work in Barnsley. We will be working closely with colleagues at West Yorkshire to help us identify those involved and ensure they are put before the courts.”

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police added: “If you have information that can help us identify those in the CCTV images, please get in touch online, via live chat or by calling 101 quoting incident number 660 of April 14 2024.”
