After a series of cast departures, the future of Once Upon a Time had looked rather uncertain.

However, the ABC show's boss has revealed today (July 22) to fans at Comic-Con that a "new chapter" has opened, one which will pay homage to the Once's core premise.

With stars Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore and Emilie de Ravin exiting the show recently, showrunner Eddy Kitsis explained their departure, while reassuring fans that the previous six seasons wouldn't be wholly erased.

"We had a plan for the original show that ran six seasons and at a point we felt like it was time for certain characters to get their happy endings," Kitsis said (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"What we're going to do now is go on a new adventure."

The first two scenes from season seven also premiered, depicting Gilmore's version of Henry as he goes to explore new fairy tales. Adult Henry is then seen crashing into Cinderella's horse-drawn carriage.

Watch the first trailer below:

"Henry is on a new adventure and wants to visit other storybooks with different stories and he falls in love with Cinderella… and he gets in trouble and calls out for help from his family and [Hook, Regina and Rumple] come to his rescue," Kitsis added.

"It's these three and Henry on an epic adventure and that's the next chapter of Once Upon a Time."

Andrew J West will play the adult version of Henry, who will be joined on-screen by Alison Fernandez playing Lucy, Henry's daughter.

Dania Ramirez will play the new Cinderella, and Gabrielle Anwar has been cast as Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's wicked stepmother.

On top of that, Mekia Cox will play Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, while Adelaide Kane is Drizella, and Rose Reynolds is tackling Alice in Wonderland.

Lana Parilla (Regina), Colin O'Donoghue (Captain Hook) and Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold) will also not be playing new characters, it was confirmed.

Once Upon a Time returns to ABC on Friday, October 6.
