One of England’s most unique pubs found in Cheshire bags top industry prize

A ‘UNIQUE’ country pub has been named one of the nation’s best.

The Cholmondeley Arms, just a short drive from Northwich, has been crowned the North West Pub of the Year at the 2024 National Pub and Bar Awards.

A spokesperson for the Malpas pub said: “What a night!

“We are honoured to have been named the regional winner for the North West at the National Pub and Bar Awards!

“We are over the moon!

“Thank you so very much to all of our lovely customers, our amazing team, and of course to Pub and Bar magazine for naming us as this year’s winner.

“We were up against some amazing competition, and are just so very proud.”

The Cholmondeley Arms was one of 13 regional winners named at the National Pub and Bar Awards on Wednesday (June 26).

This saw the pub put in the running for the overall national title, which was claimed by The George Inn in Norton St Phillip, located just outside of Bath.

The 2024 pub of the year has been named, after The George Inn, Norton St. Philip, took home the top title at this year’s National Pub & Bar Awards.

Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub and Bar magazine said: “Set in the beautiful North West countryside, Cholmondeley Arms is arguably one of England's most unique pubs.

“While it is known for its extensive selection of specific drinks, it’s a modern on-trade operation that could easily pride itself on its food, design or accommodation as well.

“It features various club activations, supplier collaborations and menu specials.

“Since the difficult times of Covid-19, the pub has gone from strength to strength and is back to being one of the best rural sites around.”

The National Pub and Bar Awards also handed out three other accolades on the evening.

The Bar Group of the Year went to The Blues Kitchen, which has a venue in Manchester.

Nottingham’s Castle Rock Brewery was named Pub Group of the Year while the inaugural Tyrrells Tyrrellbly Good Taste Award went to the Cholmondeley Arm’s sister pub, the Fitzherbert Arms.
