One person has died and two more were injured after a car was driven into pedestrians in the German town of Heidelberg. Police were tipped off by eyewitnesses and shot the driver, who had escaped on foot, allegedly holding a knife, after a short manhunt. Following a short stand-off at a swimming near to the scene of the crash, the 35-year-old German suspect was shot once and taken to hospital in a serious condition where he underwent surgery, according to a statement from local police. No specifics were given on the identity of the attacker, but authorities said there were still no signs of links to terrorism. 18:30: #Heidelberg #Bismarckplatz: Die Kollegen ermitteln. pic.twitter.com/pMMnEil7V5— Polizei Mannheim (@PolizeiMannheim) 25 February 2017 Local police confirmed that a 73-year-old man had died from injuries sustained in the crash and that an Austrian man, 32, and a woman from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 29, had suffered light injuries.
