One person was taken to hospital following a "three-vehicle collision" on John Reid Road in South Shields on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 8.30am and saw the road - the A1300 - blocked for around half an hour. Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service were both in attendance.

The incident occurred near to the junction with Dykelands Way.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision this morning (30 April) around 8:30am on John Reid Road in South Shields.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and one HART crew (Hazardous Area Response Team). One patient was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 8.30am this morning (April 30), we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on John Reid Road in South Tyneside.

“Emergency services attended the scene, near the junction with Dykelands Way." The police said injuiries were not thought to be life-threatening.
