One of Princess Diana’s Most Iconic Looks Will Be Up for Auction Very Soon—and It Has a Massive Listing Price

Guess what, royal fans? An iconic fashion piece once worn by the late Princess Diana is going up for auction, and of course, it has an expensive listing price.

This week, Sotheby’s announced the iconic red sweater (with the black sheep) famously worn by the former Princess of Wales will be put up for auction this fall. (FYI, bids for the sweater will be taken from August 31 to September 14.)

Back in June 1981, Diana (who was engaged to Prince Charles at the time) was first spotted wearing the piece, and she paired the look with a white polo shirt underneath and blue denim jeans.

According to Sotheby's, the sweater will be listed for between $50,000 and $80,000. Many royal fans may not know that Diana’s original sweater was sent back to designers Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne (the founders of the British brand, Warm & Wonderful) after Princess Diana damaged one of the cuffs. Instead, a new version was sent to the royal princess and the original was put away…until now.

The designers of the sweater shared, “This past March, as we were rummaging through the attic searching for an old pattern, we spotted a small box. Inside, tucked away beside a cotton bedspread was Diana's original red sheep sweater from 1981.”

Princess Diana’s iconic red sweater isn’t the only item of hers to be put up for auction this year. This past January, reality television star Kim Kardashian, 42, purchased a rare pendant (see below) once owned by the royal in an auction hosted by Sotheby’s. The Skims founder bought the fine piece of jewelry for a total of $197,453.
