The One Show's Alex Jones rushes son, 4, to hospital as he undergoes surgery

Alex Jones has revealed her youngest son's health scare this week which saw him being rushed to hospital for an operation.

The mum-of-three, who is best known for presenting BBC's The One Show, took to Instagram on Thursday to share the horrifying ordeal with fans.

She uploaded a snap that showed her son Kit, four, reading a book in hospital as she explained that the youngster had undergone an operation at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.

The presenter expressed her gratitude towards the staff at the NHS hospital in the capital city earlier, the Mirror reports.

Alex wrote alongside the photo: "Kit has been in for a little op this morning. Firstly, a HUGE thank [you] to the wonderfully kind nurses and doctors @chelwestft.

"Simply the best for paediatric, and also to @mykidsgoodreads. Kit chose a book which cheered him right up."

She followed up by sharing another snap of an individual, who is believed to be a staff member, alongside a series of books on a shelf in the hospital.

The 47-year-old applauded charity Read for Good, whose logo was on the bookshelf, in the accompanying caption.

Alex and her husband Charlie Thomson, who wed back in 2015, are also parents to eldest son, Teddy, seven and daughter Annie who is two.

The presenter is believed to have got emotional earlier this year as she reflected on her kids growing up as she celebrated Teddy's birthday in January.

Alex posed about the special occasion on social media at the time as she shared some pics of his balloons, writing: "The years are flying by."

She further reflected on parenthood while she was "out for a little walk" in another post on her Instagram account.

Addressing her followers, Alex said: "Hello. Happy Monday. I've come out for a little walk."

After taking a seat in the sunshine, she added: "I'm just sitting here enjoying the view. But I feel really reflective and I think it's because Ted turns seven today and we had a party with all his class yesterday and it was brilliant but it was chaotic. You don't really absorb anything."

Alex continued: "I've just sat here looking at the clouds go past thinking, wow. They tell you to absorb it and hold on.

"Their childhood goes in a flash but of course you do. You hold on so tight and still there's nothing you can do about it to slow time down.

"This is very reflective, very deep for me. I just thought lots of other parents would probably say the same."

The One Show host, who has previously opened up about her miscarriage in 2017, went on to discuss the family's plans, saying: "I've taken the day off and then we're going to see Wonka.

"It's all good and I feel super happy and grateful to have him and his brother and sister. But it's a funny old thing. Isn’t it? It's a funny old thing."
