Note: This article contains spoilers for Orange Is the New Black season 7.

After seven tumultuous seasons, Orange Is the New Black has officially come to an end.

One of the key stories of the series was the ever-unpredictable relationship between Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) and Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter how she imagined the couple's future would unfold after the show, Prepon was adamant about their ability to make things work after everything they went through together.

"Well, Alex and Piper end up together. I think they both learned a lot from these years in prison and they’ll take that with them," she said. "I’m hoping that they use that to treat each other a lot better, which I’m sure they will. Because at the end of the day, love is love is love.

"And Alex and Piper love each other, so you just figure it out."

The relationship between the two tortured soulmates quickly became the show's central romance, breaking ground for LGBTQ representation.

Series creator Jenji Kohan has also discussed her thoughts on the show's ending, as well as the 'meta' idea she wanted to use, but was vetoed by her son.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, she revealed that she thought about a 'meta' conclusion to Piper's storyline. Piper is based on Piper Kerman, whose memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison inspired the TV series.

Kohan considered the possibility of having Piper in the TV show pitch to a fictional version of the Orange Is the New Black creator a TV series based on her life in prison.

"I mentioned it to my 13-year-old over dinner, and he's like, 'No you can't end the show like that!'" Kohan said.

Orange Is the New Black's final season is available to watch on Netflix.
