Yesterday, Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in the hit fantasy film series, landed in Liverpool and shared a video message to his fans ahead of Comic Con. He said: "Hi, Elijah here, I am in Liverpool and I can't wait to see you all tomorrow at Comic Con."

The star continued: "It's a pretty massive reunion, I can't wait to see my fellow hobbit friends and other folks from Middle Earth as well. See you soon."

This year Comic Con Liverpool is set to see a huge reunion of the Lord of the Rings cast, with Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd set to attend. View the full list of celebrities attending here.

However, the event has sadly seen another star pull out at last minute, which has caused some fans to fit out. It was announced in the early hours of today (Sat) that Bernard Hill is unable to attend Comic Con due to his partner being ill.

In a statement on Instagram Comic Con wrote: "Due to Bernard’s partner being taken very ill he can no longer attend the event. He sends his sincere apologies and thanks you all for you understanding. He sends his love to all of you and will see you all again soon at another Monopoly event."

The convention takes in Liverpool's Exhibition Centre on May 4 - 5. The annual gathering sees prominent names from film, animation, television, comics and more come together to meet fans, speak at panels and sometimes share exclusive announcements.

Sadly, tickets for the Saturday event are currently sold out. There are still tickets available for Sunday, varying in price up to £29.70. An after-party event will be held on Saturday at Camp and Furnace. Tickets are available from £16.50. You do not need a Comic-Con entry ticket to attend the after-party.
