Outdoor play to highlight child exploitation in drug trade

An outdoor physical theatre show is set to tell the story of how drug dealers are using children to operate their trade.

Theatre company Justice in Motion will perform 'CODE', a physical theatre piece featuring parkour athletes, stunt bike riders and theatre performers, at Aureus School in Didcot on Thursday, July 4, at 5.30pm.

The show aims to bring awareness to the drug trade operated by children, known as 'county lines'.

This term refers to the ways in which mobile phones are used to organise drug distribution across authority boundaries.

Head of drama, Joni McAuliffe, said: "At Aureus we are so glad to be able to bring world class theatre to Didcot.

"It is such an honour to host Justice in Motion and bring it for free to our community."

The Didcot Power House Fund, a scheme aimed at reducing inequality and deprivation within the Didcot Garden Town Area of Influence, is supporting the event.

Elizabeth Paris DL, chair of The Didcot Power House Fund, said: "What a fantastic opportunity for young people to explore issues such as drugs and knife crime through the inspirational world of drama.

"The Didcot Powerhouse Fund is delighted that by funding a grant to Justice in Motion we can bring this opportunity to Didcot."

The performance will take place following two days of presentations, workshops and shows at the school.
